| Only last week TomTom announced the release of a new Top Gear branded satnav. A special edition of the TomTom Go Live personal satnav, the gadget features Top Gear branding on the box, including The Stig in his famous white racing outfit, while Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson lended his voice to provide navigation instructions. Unfortunately TomTom have had to abandon the new product after the BBC ruled it didn't conform to its policies surrounding commercial endorsements.
It is available through Halfords and the TomTom website. However, BBC senior executives concluded that a BBC TV presenter could not endorse a driving-related product. According to the Telegraph, the product is to be abandoned. Halfords issued a statement indicating that while they are disappointed by the BBC's decision, they will continue to sell the existing stock until no more units are left. "We are disappointed with the decision by the BBC on behalf of our customers who told us they loved the product. It was proving hugely popular", said Halfords in a press statement. "While we have plenty of stock at the moment we will not be able to replace them when they are gone, so the strident tones of Mr Clarkson will be appearing in Halfords for a limited time only and after that he will be silenced, at least on a satnav”,"said a Halfords representative. The agreement had been set up between BBC Worldwide and TomTom, however the corporation advised that this didn't conform with the BBC's editorial policy. For as long as stocks last, you can buy a limited edition Top Gear TomTom Go Live on the Halfords website. Related items

The gadget, which already proved popular in the shops and no doubt was part of TomTom's marketing strategy in the run-up to Christmas, offered users the choice between the silent Stig or Jeremy Clarkson for audio navigation instructions.
