Man builds DIY Bugatti Veyron supercar

The Bugatti Veyron supercar sports a powerful 8-litre 16-cylinder engine capable of producing 1,000 bhp. With a top speed of 260 mph, it remains the fastest commercial supercar on the market and comes with an eye watering price tag of $1.5 million. Mike Duff decided to build his own Veyron replica entirely by hand in a process that took a full 9 months from start to finish.

Bugatti Veyron replica supercarFew people can claim to own a Bugatti Veyron and 25-year-old Mr Duff from Florida decided to take matters in his own hands. Taking a complete 2002 Mercury Cougar coupe, he spent months transforming the car's exterior to look just like the Veyron.

He then added a professional pain job, lots of buffing and covered everything inside with genuine leather to look just like the original Volkswagen supercar. He also included sports usable back seats, something the original Veyron lacks.

Mr Duff recently put his car on the market with a price tag of $89,000 - significantly less than the price of a genuine Bugatti Veyron.

Although everyone will agree the finished product looks fabulous, unfortunately the similarities end as soon as you turn on the ignition. The car still uses the original 2.5 litre V6 engine capable of producing some 170 bhp - over 5x less than the original Veyron.

It might be disappointing to some people and still seem expensive considering it costs roughly the same as a new Porsche. Still, it's probably the closest you're likely to come to owning a Veyron yourself and looks just as good.

What do you think? Would you pay nearly $90k for a car just for its looks, or would you rather opt for a new sports car instead? Do you think this DIY Veyron is likely to age well and remain an economical solution in the long run?
